My sister-in-law had her baby

...and she and my stepbrother named him the same name as my husband.

It's not the most uncommon of boy names, but seriously?

Sorry you're not happy with it.

Um, that's just weird. And will make for confusing family get-togethers. is there a nick-name that goes with that name you can call the kid?

Are you sure she doesn't have a "thing" for your husband? (just asking!!)

Hmm. Are your husband and his stepbrother close? Maybe they chose the name to honor him in some way?

Weird! Out of all the names out there?

We've been planning for a long time to name one of our sons (assuming we have more than one) after Mech. It's impossible to stop family members from using the name if they want to, but I would have hoped they at least would have thought to talk with you two about it. It's strange, to be sure.

Ny general feeling is that names are not single use items and it's fine to have more than one in a family, especially if it's not a super-unusual name. So unless your husband's name is something like Xenos, I think it's not terribly weird.

It would perhaps have been courteous to run this by you first, but if they would have used the name regardless of what you had to say I can see how it would have been disingenuous to do so.

And I hope this doesn't read as bitchy or offensive... it's not meant to be! I just spend a lot of time reading name blogs and the issue comes up a lot, usually raised by the namers.
