I failed my 1-hour glucose test. Barely. The cut-off for 'normal' is 140. I got 143. So I get to take the 3-hour test. I'm really not looking forward to it--not for the test itself, but for sitting 3+ hours in the OB's waiting room. Soooo uncomfortable! Plus, of course, they can never find my veins and I usually get poked multiple times. I wonder if they'll give me a saline lock and call it good. (I'll ask.)
I'm also anemic. So I took extra iron and promptly threw it up. Guess I'll have to work on that.

I'm sorry : ( I hope the glucose test ends up being nothing and you pass the 3 hr with flying colors.
Stupid anemia. My hemoglobin (right? I think) was 12.1 and they said 10 was anemic and my levels would only drop as pregnancy progressed. I've been trying to fight it but there's only so much you can do.
Just like you said - I'm sure you're doing what's best for your babies, to the extent that it's possible!
Aww that sucks. I'm 99% positive that I'm going to flunk mine bigtime. Way to think positive Sarah. haha
Well, on the plus side it's not guaranteed that you'll fail the 3 hr... that is so close to borderline. Our OBs now make everyone do a longer test.
And iron supplement - Floradix? Goes down easier than some.
Ah, the sugar monster. I had a similar result on my one hour glucose but the 3 hour result was fine (actually, irony of ironies, it showed that I was a bit hypoglycemic). The test is a funny one. And, yeah, the wait is sucky. My doctor's office let me lie down in an empty exam room for the duration - maybe your nurses can do the same?
And I'll echo the FLoradix suggestion. It's easier than the iron pills on your stomach. Some people love the taste. I didn't. But I did manage (mostly) to get it and keep it down.
I flunked my first one, too. They told me the cutoff was 130 and I was 146. I'm an extremely hard stick; the only place they can get blood is in my left hand and when they took my first test it took 3 sticks for 1 draw. Very upsetting since my hand was bruised and scabbed for a week+.
I passed my second test with flying colors though so you're probably going to be fine.
Oh, they told me they couldn't do a saline lock. I didn't really understand the explanation other than the blood needs to from a fresh draw?
Would a book or knitting help the 3 hours wait? I wouldn't want to be there that long either!
I've given you an award. Please come pick it up at my blog: http://rowan6.blogspot.com/2011/12/thank-you-for-award-part-2.html
bummer! you might want to try slow FE. you ingest it slowly so your chances of puking are minimized.
