I have cervical funneling. Not enough to freak them out (15%) and my cervix is still very long (4.2). But enough to call in another doctor and spend a loooonnnnggg time with the dildocam (my, how I missed that). And apparently, if you shove really hard on a woman's uterus and the cervix doesn't shorten significantly, that's good news. But you need to test it 4-5 times, just in case.
So the short of it is: I'm on bedrest for 2 weeks, and then we re-evaluate.
I put a call into my school, but haven't heard back yet. I think I'm out, though.
The ultrasound was, all around, not as fun as they've been in the past. I had a very hard time laying on the table, and kept having to turn onto my side. I was dizzy and nauseous, and Atticus would not hold still. They couldn't even get his heart-rate as he was bouncing around between beats, squiggling out of range. It was cute for about 2 minutes, then the tech got irritated. Damien was more cooperative and has a lovely heart--4 chambers, no holes, clear septum, etc. A revisit of Atticus's heart at the end showed 4 chambers and a septum, but they couldn't "pass him off" just yet. So we get to do it again, when they check my cervix.
Nothing like gel up your twat and all over your belly, in case you were wondering. I'm sure I'll have to fight my husband off tonight (...and every night for the foreseeable future, since "rest" is the only thing that will be happening in our bed).
Atticus's placenta has moved a bit--not completely free of my cervix, but enough that the peri said she "would recommend vaginal delivery if things keep going the way they are and Baby A flips." So that was good news. They're still hanging out bunkbed-style. Atticus continues to measure about a week behind, but stayed within his growth curve. Damien was measuring ahead today, and for some reason had a huge tummy. Still within the curve, but at like 80%. Peri thinks it was a measurement error and expects it to be back down closer to 60% like the rest of his measurements were.
Damien weighs and estimated 1lb2oz, with Atticus at about 13 oz.
I'm proud of my boys for growing so well and being so active. I hope I can keep them inside for a long while yet.
And DVD or book recommendations to pass the time?

So sorry about the bed rest. I would recommend getting the DVD's of a TV series you want to watch. I watched a TON of episodes of Friends when I was on bed rest for just 3 days! Glad those boys are growing!
Glad you are getting some rest! What is cervix funneling? I shall look it up :) Oh yeah, the gel up your twat AND all over the tummy is fab. Had that done last time. I was tempted to have my husband take me out behind the building and hose me down with a garden hose. haha. I felt to gross to even sit in the car. But I did. So happy the babes are doing well. Do you like creepy/horror type shows? If so I would recommend watching online "American Horror Story." And it's on wednesday nights on FX. Super weird..but super good!
Ooh, books and DVDs, I can do this! Have you seen "In Treatment?" It's an HBO series about a psychotherapist and it is absolutely addictive.
And books -- if you like sci-fi and/or historical fiction, try "Blackout" and "All Clear" by Connie Willis. (Time-travel -- they jump back and forth between the mid-21st century and WWII.)
Sorry about the bed rest and all the gooey gel, but I'm so glad to hear the behbehs are doing well.
A friend of mine is pregnant with twins after IVF and also has cervical funneling. So you're not alone! Take it easy.
We just started watching "The Wonder Years" on Netflix, that's a great show. If you haven't read Bossypants that's a must read. I have a list of books on my blog that I've read this year with a grade for each if you're interested : )
Oh no! I hope the two weeks goes by quickly and you go back to no funneling and can get off bed rest! But, try to look at it as a positive...you get to lay around and watch tv and read and not go to work! I find it helpful to record shows I like on TV and then watch them when I am bored and there is nothing else interesting on TV. If there is a particular author you like, look up that author on amazon and they'll give you similar books/authors as the one you like...it's a good way to find new books to read!
The nanny diaries was juuuust snarky enough to be an interesting read. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars for some chill reading that probably wont expand your mind but will allow you to roll your eyes at certain castes of society.
Hope the funelling stops and the cervix stays long and closed!!
Sorry about the bedrest! I've been reading the "Hunger Games" series-kind of twilightish but I like it. Before that it was Charlane Harris/Sookie Stackhouse series. All are not that deep and easy to follow/get into.
Thinking of you! Hang in there.
Ug! I'm sorry to hear that you have been put on bed rest :( Fingers crossed that everything looks good after two weeks and you can get up from the bed.
I recommend Netflix so you can let your fingers do the walking all day long. That and a big stack of books and/or your e book reader, and maybe a craft project? Maybe a journal of letters to your boys? Let us know how it goes.
Marissa, just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you, and hoping that this 2 week period is not too crazy making (and that you got some good suggestions for books and distractions).
Sorry for the bed rest but glad the babies are doing well!
I just read Let the Great World Spin and LOVED it...a little on the literary side but still very readable. Also have you read The Elegance of the Hedgehog? One of my favorite books.
Hope the 2 weeks goes by fast for you!
Ack, that is scary! My thoughts are with you, even more since I've spent the past 2 weeks hanging out with a lot of preemies of varying ages. I hope so much that your cervix funneling is under control and that your doctors continue to be aggressive in keeping the boys in there to cook a lot longer.
As for the twins post - my condolences on the upcoming due date of Isiah, and best of luck being patient with the repetition. However, I really hope you have another full four months or more of stupid twin pregnancy comments ahead of you.
My time-suck bed-rest recommendation: Jilly Cooper's Rutshire Chronicles (Riders comes first). Epically long and super-salacious fun.
